Process Instances remain Active

Certain of my Activiti workflows (Process Instances) remain Active even after they have completed. It appears to be workflows that don’t have any user tasks on them that remain active. They all get an end date but remain active. We are building some workflows that may or may not require user intervention depending on conditional logic. In some cases workflows will complete immediately without any additional user tasks.
