can you advise on how to change the title Cuba Application that appears on the main menu. I checked in web-menu.xml but I can not see where that is being set

I tried that and its not working I have this in messages.properties
what is changing is the browser tab name not the menu
my version of CUBA is
CUBA Studio 2019.1 (IntelliJ Edition)
Build #CS-191.7479.113, built on September 3, 2019
JRE: 1.8.0_202-release-1483-b53 amd64

you are right… this was for the horizontal menu and not for the vertical menu you asked for.
Here the settings in Main Message Pack:
which change the menu title to:
